Wise Self is concerned with developing psychological resilience in individuals and organisations, by helping them to build the skills necessary to meet challenges with creativity and resourcefulness. Using principles taken from evidence-based psychological approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Positive Psychology; Wise Self helps people to override outdated thinking patterns and habits and adopt new, resilient coping strategies. Ultimately reducing stress and promoting wellbeing and productivity in the workplace.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or CBT, is interested in how the way that we think can have an effect on the way that we feel, and ultimately the way that we behave. The idea is that the meaning we attach to things can affect how we feel and how we will react. In times of stress our buttons can be pressed more easily and we may be more vulnerable to believing our negative interpretations, which can have further detrimental effects on our mood.
CBT techniques and principles can be applied in the workplace to help bolster resilience and enhance performance, encouraging people to update negative thinking patterns and adopt helpful coping strategies and stress management techniques.
I am a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist who has worked within the private sector and also provided services within the NHS. I am constantly seeking to improve upon and broaden my skill set, with progressive approaches including Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Prior to this role I worked in financial services, meaning that I am well-placed to recognise the value of facilitating psychological approaches in both public and private settings.
Mindfulness is the UK’s fastest growing technique for managing stress and maximising satisfaction. Rather than dwelling on negative thoughts and feelings and being ‘stuck in our heads’ we can retrain our minds and focus more readily on the Here and Now. In a fast-paced working environment mindfulness can enable people to attend more closely to the task at hand, problem-solve more effectively and access their creativity.
